Baxter is a 7 year old Boxer. We got him through Midwest Boxer Rescue, and we've had him since he was a year old.

Last year we noticed Baxter was having some trouble with his back left leg. It bows inwards and/or twists when he walks and its instability causes him to slip and fall frequently. Our vet said he needs surgery, which we're trying to get his weight down for, but we can't do any of that unless he has a leg brace so he can go for walks.

Right now, he can go down to the end of the block and back, but anything else is too much for his leg. If he keeps falling and having to completely rely on his back left leg, he's going to end up compromising that good leg and he would most likely end up needing a wheelchair. Baxter is the sweetest boy and we would be so grateful for any donation to help him out. Thank you.

02/04/13 UPDATE:

Baxter has been steadily been losing weight since last year hes now down around 20lbs and hes looking great! (Though hes not real happy with how little food hes getting!) Were very proud of him!! Hes almost down to his 1 year old weight :)

We went to the vet about two weeks ago and right now our game plan is to keep up with the diet & exercise (when the Nebraska weather allows) until the end of March. Then well take Bax down the the Kansas State Vetrinary hospital to see what they think. Our vet thinks our options are probably going to be a brace on his good leg to keep him from wearing it out two braces or surgery and a brace on the good leg. On a side note we also found out he needs the gum growth in his mouth removed so if he does get surgery down there well get that taken care of too. Im going to try to get a good video of Baxter walking from behind so you can see what his leg does.
